IMS is designed to help telecom administrators automate the task of maintaining data about the assignment of
IP addresses on a network. IMS manages the process of identifying in-use and unassigned IP addresses.
IMS eliminates IP conflicts by using IMS network domains. Within one IMS domain an IP address must be
unique. This is not to be confused with the common term of IP Domain.
It fully supports both IPv4 as well as IPv6, creation of IP address ranges, subnets, and subnets within subnets
(multiple layers).
IP addresses can be related to network items like equipment (loopback address), ports, cards and connections
like VLANs.
